KUALA LUMPUR: The police are waiting for medical reports including the post-mortem in the case where a police sergeant was found dead with gunshot wounds in Bayan Lepas, Penang.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the medical report was important to discover the cause of death.

"We have classified the case as a sudden death report.

"However, we are still waiting for the medical and post-mortem reports on the cause of death.

"We hope all parties will refrain from speculating on the case," he told reporters after witnessing the handing-over ceremony for the Selangor police chief's post here on Friday (Feb 24).

He said the police would investigate the matter thoroughly and transparently.

"We have never covered up the wrongdoings of any party.

"We will investigate thoroughly to uncover what actually occurred," he said.

It was reported that a police sergeant was found dead with gunshot wounds behind a police station in Bayan Lepas.

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt Kamarul Rizal Jenal had said the 51-year-old was found at about 3.30pm on Sunday (Feb 19).

"The deceased was found with gunshot wounds to his neck, chest and also head," he said in a statement, adding that a pistol was found.

Supt Kamarul said the deceased was posted at the Bayan Lepas station.

He urged the public not to speculate as the case was still being investigated.

Former IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan called for the police to find out if any foul play had occurred.
